The conference “Systemic risks: the insurance sector’s response to the management of extreme weather and climate events”, set up by Insurance Engineering University Consortium – CINEAS, took place on Thursday, November 7th 2024.
The meeting, coordinated and chaired by CINEAS General Director, Antonio Scognamillo of Tonucci & Partners, was attended by representatives of insurance companies, professional associations, CINEAS alumni and managers of intermediaries discussing on the increasingly frequent natural disasters due to climate deterioration as well as on public and private management before and after the happening.
The discussion provided cases of good practices, international models applied and intervention opportunities regarding the management of the harmful event in terms of close data communication, action speed, activities coordination of several units involved and the necessary prevention activity the companies are supposed to implement. The analysis was very useful especially in view of the imminent effectiveness and application, by December 31st 2024, of law 213/2023 (art.1, paragraphs 101 and following) which establishes for Italian companies the obligation of insurance coverage concerning damages caused by natural disasters.
