Although online gaming and e-sports sector pretends abstractly to be one of the most inclusive ones, given the absence of gender-based categories in challenges or competitions where what matters is the individual gamer’s skill, gender equality in gaming is a goal still to achieve.

The gender gap persists in several respects, starting from the demographic composition of players and employees in the sector. Furthermore, within online gaming platforms, women are often subject to discrimination, insults, verbal aggression and other cyberbullying or violence acts related to their gender.
